Plaster walls: how to do

Plaster walls with your own hands

Necessary tools and materials: a rule, a spatula, a household mixer or a puncher, 2 buckets, a hard brush or roller, lighthouses, a level, PVA glue, water and gypsum plaster.

Wall preparation

Before proceeding to plastering, the wall must be prepared, otherwise the plaster will not have a good degree of adhesion to the wall surface.

The entire wall area is thoroughly cleaned with a wide, stiff brush from loose elements and dust. It is advisable to moisten the brush with water, this will allow you to clean the dust even from small cracks. It is better to repeat the procedure twice and allow the wall to dry completely.

As soon as the surface is dry, you can proceed to the primer. In a bucket of water, we dilute 1 part of PVA glue with 10 parts of water. Mix everything thoroughly with a household mixer or a rotary hammer with a special nozzle. You can mix it manually, but the degree of uniformity of the mixture will be much lower.

When the mixture is ready, apply it with the same stiff brush. The first layer is applied horizontally from the corner of the wall to the opposite edge. It is important to go through all the cracks and hard-to-reach places. As soon as the first layer is ready, let the wall dry for 30-40 minutes and apply the second layer, but with vertical movements. It is better to repeat the process 5-6 times and leave the wall to dry completely. After 10-12 hours, you can safely start plastering.

Plastering

The gypsum mixture is diluted in a bucket of water, the proportions can be found in the attached instructions. It is necessary to mix with a mixer or a punch with a nozzle. It is important that the mixture is homogeneous, without lumps. The consistency should be approximately the same as that of the pie dough.

When the solution is ready, it is carefully "slapped" with dots along a vertical line. Next, a metal corner-a beacon - is applied to these "flip-flops". It is leveled using a level over the entire vertical surface. It is important to maintain maximum accuracy. In the same way, a second lighthouse is mounted at a distance of approximately 1-1.5 meters from the first one. The procedure is repeated until the beacons are placed over the entire area of the wall and left to dry for 6-8 hours. As soon as the beacons are ready, they begin the main and final part of the process.

The mortar is spread between the lighthouses over the entire area just above the lighthouses themselves. The excess is removed by a sharp movement of the rule from top to bottom. It is important to press the rule firmly against the lighthouses, otherwise the surface will be uneven. Once the entire wall is plastered, it is left to dry for 24 hours.
